Adoption Complete!

Cast Iron Skaters has completed the adoption process! YES you read that right! We ADOPTED! No it's not a child or a puppy.... we adopted a HIGHWAY! Our way of keeping Washington clean, one person at a time!

We had great turnout for our official cleanup day alongside I-5 yesterday! It was quite a wonderful experience doing community service as  team. We left our section much cleaner, as we picked up 17 bags of trash, a car bumper, many pieces of a smashed up boat and the top of a car top storage unit. Its quite disheartening to see how many people intentionally throw trash out the window, but if we continue doing what we are, we can ensure this beautiful state has a nice section that is trash free! We encourage EVERYONE to please do their part!

What did we find most of?

  • Cigarette butts. We are trying not to exaggerate at all with this number, so these are a estimation, but a fairly accurate one.... Probably close to 1000 in a 2 mile stretch. If your a car smoker, carry a bottle with a bit of water in your car so you can place them in the bottle and dispose of them in a trash can!
  • Tire scraps. Big ones and little ones. When you get a flat tire, make sure you try to get as much of the burst tire as SAFELY possible. Your DOT can assist you in cleanup if necessary, just remember your mile marker and road. Tires contain a lot of wires and can cause injury as well as are not biodegradable!
  • Banana peels. We are glad to see that Washington is trying stock up on potassium, but remember that these types of things (although biodegradable) take a long time to break down and also attract animals which can be hit by vehicles. :-(
  • Tooth pickers.... not the wooden ones but the little plastic ones with floss attached. Although your dentist may be super happy with your flossing habits, its pretty gross to pick up when its not your own....
